The Cathedral of Orvieto was already equipped with a traditional LPS system (Faraday cage) for protection against direct lightning strikes, but lacked protection against indirect surges and SPD switching, as required by current regulations.
It was therefore necessary to integrate the existing system with a complete and compliant solution capable of ensuring the safety of the electrical system and the protection of the historical and artistic assets inside the cathedral.
Solution supplied
Euthalia has developed an advanced surge protection system for the entire electrical system of the Duomo. The project involved the installation of surge protective devices (SPDs) of various classes to protect the primary and secondary electrical panels, communication lines, and CCTV, ensuring continuity of electrical service and maximum protection from indirect discharges and switching phenomena.
The solution provided guarantees total protection over an area of more than 4,500 m², in full compliance with CEI EN 62305 standards and without any impact on the aesthetics of the building.
